Bear Canyon is an established single-family neighborhood at the foot of the Santa Catalina Mountains on Tucson's northeast side, clustered where Bear Canyon Road meets Tanque Verde Road in ZIP codes 85749 and 85715. It takes its name from Bear Canyon, the drainage in the Coronado National Forest just north of it, whose Bear Canyon Trail (#29) climbs from the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area to Seven Falls. The neighborhood is not one subdivision but several — Castle Rock and the gated Lakes at Castle Rock, The Woods, Windsor Park and Tanque Verde Trails among them — so homeowners-association status and dues are confirmed by parcel rather than read off the neighborhood: some blocks carry no association at all, others run from roughly $12 a year to a few hundred dollars a month, and the Lakes at Castle Rock keeps its own recreation amenities behind its gates, including community pools, tennis courts and a series of man-made lakes.
