A 580-acre private golf-and-residential enclave tucked into central-east Tucson on the north side of Tanque Verde Road between Sabino Canyon Road and Grant Road. Tucson Country Club Estates traces back to 1946, when a group of roughly 50 Tucsonans purchased the original 580-acre ranch and formed both the for-profit Country Club Estates, Inc. and the non-profit Tucson Country Club to build the city's first true country-club subdivision. The club itself opened in 1947 with an 18-hole golf course designed by father-and-son architects William F. Bell and William P. Bell — a true parkland routing where mature tree canopies rise more than 130 feet above the fairways, giving the neighborhood its widely noted 'Midwestern' feel that's almost impossible to find anywhere else in southern Arizona. The community is bordered on two sides by the Pantano Wash and Tanque Verde Creek riparian corridors, and its eastern edge runs straight into the mid-century Indian Ridge Estates historic district.
