A storybook central-Tucson enclave bounded by Prince Road, Fort Lowell, Tucson Boulevard and Country Club. Platted in 1948 by developer C.B. Richards and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, Winterhaven is famous for two things you'll find nowhere else in the desert: lush green front lawns (each yard is still required to keep at least 50% turf) and the Aleppo pine canopy Richards planted in 1949 along Christmas Avenue. Every December the neighborhood hosts the Winterhaven Festival of Lights — one of the longest-running holiday light displays in the country, continuously lit since 1949 and now in its 76th year.
